Importance of Servicing a Gas Fireplace

Living in a place with a warmer climate, we know that a gas fireplace is not typically used year-round. However, when you use your gas fireplace, you want to ensure it works in its best order.

Get rid of the build-up in your gas fireplace!

Gas fireplaces typically require more minor cleanup than typical wood-burning fireplaces, but that doesn’t mean that they still don’t accumulate buildup.

The ceramic logs can deteriorate and clog vents, leading to a less efficient fireplace. Every season when you’re getting ready to use your gas fireplace, you should do a full clean, including the glass panes in front of the fire, to ensure everything is working correctly.

Protect your safety

Glass doors on your fireplace should be cleaned yearly to ensure the glass is clear, so the fire is always visible and that someone doesn’t accidentally touch the glass panes while they’re hot.

Any type of gas appliance has a risk of producing leaks and catching on fire. However, maintaining your gas fireplace yearly can help alleviate a lot of the danger.

Easy DIY ways to service your gas fireplace

  • Inspect your fireplace's exterior and interior to ensure there are no cracks.
  • Check/install carbon monoxide detectors. As with any gas appliance, there are slight gas leak risks. Carbon monoxide detectors are an excellent way to catch any harmful gas leaks as early as possible.
  • Vacuum the interior of your gas fireplace to remove debris and ensure the vents are cleared.
  • Check the gas ignition by turning off all valves and cleaning them. This is also the time to check for gas leaks, either through smell or by brushing some brush and dish soap over the gas lines and valves and checking for bubbles.

Call a professional for no-hassle gas fireplace servicing!

While cleaning and servicing a gas fireplace can be a DIY job, it should only be done if you are experienced working with gas appliances and assuming that no parts need to be replaced. That said, if you need your gas fireplace serviced or are worried that something has gone wrong, contact High Speed Plumbing for a consultation today!
